First Circle is a tribute act to the legendary Pat Metheny Group. For one night, the musicians on stage take you back to the glory years of the prolific Pat Metheny – Lyle Mays duo. The Montreal-based band recreates with accuracy the greatest works of Metheny and his crew, while keeping a certain artistic freedom. Close your eyes and feel the groove of this rich, soaring, orchestral and south American influenced music. Nostalgic listeners, unconditional fans or simply music enthusiasts, this show is for you!

Formed last summer, First Circle features young musicians sharing a common passion: Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays’ music. The show is based mainly on live versions of the songs played in the 1980 and 1990’s eras of the PMG. The repertoire includes works from Pat Metheny Group, Offramp, First Circle, Still Life (Talking), Letter From Home, We Live Here, Imaginary Day and The Way Up albums.

Set apart the 2010 quartet tour, the Pat Metheny Group played as a full band for the last time at the Montreal Jazz Festival closing show. July 10th 2005 marked the last concert of The Way Up world tour, but also the end of an era for Pat Metheny and his band. Their complicated and serious, but always accessible and organic music is highly challenging for any musician giving it a try. Metheny's and Mays' works transcend generations and it is with pride, humility and great joy that First Circle make them live again.
